Concert bliss

I’ve concluded that I enjoy concerts a lot more when I’m sitting down and relaxing with a beer (or chocolate mousse!), rather than standing and trying to move and crane my neck to see the band because there are too many tall folks in my way.

I saw Ra Ra Riot, Andrew Bird and Death Cab for Cutie yesterday evening at the Greek Theater in Berkeley with a new friend. It was such a great show; I felt so happy, even as it rained a little.

Beach House, again.

This evening I saw Beach House once again. My one, sole Beach House-loving friend couldn’t go with me in the end, and no one else could or didn’t want to go with me, so I went by myself.

They were playing at the Swedish American Hall in San Francisco. I love this venue because it feels as though you’re attending a school play, with the wooden chairs lined up in front of the tiny stage, and the juice, chips and sandwiches being sold in the back.

I ate my chicken sandwich and my raspberry cookies and had a grand time bobbing my head to my favorite band. Every now and then, the thought, “I wish I was here with a guy I really dug!” popped into my head. Their music just has this uncanny ability to conjure up feelings of romance and sentimentality in me. Damn them.

For their second encore, they played my favorite song (“Holy Dances”) and their new song sounds absolutely amazing live. And when it was all over, Victoria closed it by saying to the crowd, “Now go be in love.” I love that.

What a great way to end the weekend.

Addendum (9/29, 7:15PM): I forgot to mention something funny. I was sitting next to couple (I’d say in their late twenties) who were obviously on their second or third date. I concluded this because they were asking each other what their favorite fruits and vegetables were.

“Hahah. That is awesome. It is that period of liking someone you don’t know that well, but wanting to know a lot of stupid details about them.” - Z
