St. Vincent

The new St. Vincent album (“Actor”) is ridiculously good. I just want to lie in bed and listen to it for the remainder of the night, but I can’t, and, therefore, I am sad.

Perfect

EdwardDroste: Beach house is my favorite music in the world. For REAL (via twitter)

You know the world is perfect when the lead singer of one of your favorite bands (Grizzly Bear) claims that his favorite music is your other favorite band (Beach House).

Depapepe - Wedding Bell

I stumbled upon this song on YouTube when I was looking for Beach House covers (heh) and I thought this was going to be a cover of their song “Wedding Bell”. Instead, much to my surprise and delight (though initial disappointment, because it was not a Beach House song), it turned out to be a beautiful song by, as I would soon learn, acoustic guitar duo Depapepe (not sure how to pronounce that).

You know how some songs take a while to sink into your skin, while with others the infatuation is immediate? The experience with this song was the latter. I loved it not even twenty seconds in. Of course, struck with such adoration, I had to stop whatever it was I was doing to listen, absorb and repeat.

I’m sure this song is intended to be a happy one, given its title, but I’d like to believe that there is a hint of melancholy and unfulfilled love in there. It just makes it more romantic and beautiful that way. At least to me.

Beach House, again.

This evening I saw Beach House once again. My one, sole Beach House-loving friend couldn’t go with me in the end, and no one else could or didn’t want to go with me, so I went by myself.

They were playing at the Swedish American Hall in San Francisco. I love this venue because it feels as though you’re attending a school play, with the wooden chairs lined up in front of the tiny stage, and the juice, chips and sandwiches being sold in the back.

I ate my chicken sandwich and my raspberry cookies and had a grand time bobbing my head to my favorite band. Every now and then, the thought, “I wish I was here with a guy I really dug!” popped into my head. Their music just has this uncanny ability to conjure up feelings of romance and sentimentality in me. Damn them.

For their second encore, they played my favorite song (“Holy Dances”) and their new song sounds absolutely amazing live. And when it was all over, Victoria closed it by saying to the crowd, “Now go be in love.” I love that.

What a great way to end the weekend.

Addendum (9/29, 7:15PM): I forgot to mention something funny. I was sitting next to couple (I’d say in their late twenties) who were obviously on their second or third date. I concluded this because they were asking each other what their favorite fruits and vegetables were.

“Hahah. That is awesome. It is that period of liking someone you don’t know that well, but wanting to know a lot of stupid details about them.” - Z

BEACH HOUSE - USED TO BE

Recorded over the summer of 2008 after many exhaustive months of touring, “Used To Be” contemplates the spiritual and physical effects of life on the everchanging road, love and getting older…Beach House

Beautiful new song from my most beloved band. I can’t wait to see them this Sunday.

GRIZZLY BEAR - EASIER

This album (Yellow House) is absolutely gorgeous. The opening song, ‘Easier’ is perfect and I love it when the piano kicks in. I was listening to the album again while I was compiling my ‘Listless’ (i.e. music I listen to while I sleep or read) playlist and I had to take a moment to just lie back, close my eyes and imbibe.

Beach House - All The Years

I’ve been listening to this song every single day for the past three months, or so. I listen to it right before I sleep, when I take a shower, get dressed, while I’m in the car, on the train, everywhere. If I had a boy, I’d put this on a mix tape for him.
