Recent changes

I’ve recently been inspired by my sister’s room-makeover. I particularly liked how she removed the doors from her closet (still a work in progress) and inserted her bookshelf and dresser.
I decided to rearrange my room, too. I’ve moved all the big pieces so far, now I just need to figure out where to put all of my books and small items, while aiming for a minimalist look as much as possible. Something’s going to have to give., I think.
Is it over yet?
I feel pretty good in general, but…
I really, really can’t wait for this semester to end. It started lousy, progressed sluggishly, and I believe it will end with a dull *plod*. Honestly, I didn’t accomplish some things I wanted to—the motivation just wasn’t there. So I’m looking forward to the summer with lots of baking, sun, music and lazying about (and getting my academic shit together, in terms of reading and research), and will hopefully start the fall semester on the right foot. Yeh.
Buying on the cheap
Recently, one of my favorite things to do has been to peruse the weekly grocery ads and make note of wicked deals. For example, today I bought a family-size box of Honey Nut Cheerios for $2.99 and a loaf of wheat bread for $1.89. Yippee!
I’m actually kind of enjoying having less disposible income since working fewer days because it’s enabled me to be more resourceful in my buying habits and it’s developed into a sort of game—like, “Hmm…let’s see how much less I can pay for this…” I’ve also had an easier time forgoing little luxury goods here and there because I’ve resolved that I can do without them. And of course I take advantage of student discounts where ever they are available (the downtown area is a cornucopia of student-friendly establishments). The best deal I’ve found so far has been the 40% off (plus an additional 10% with my frequent buyer card) I get at this frozen yogurt shop when I flash my student ID.
I have this new sense of greater simplicity in my life and I feel a lot more wise and in control of my spending, and I like that.
Penny pinching
This morning I found that it only takes me 20 minutes to walk to my work from school, so I’ll definitely be choosing this as my mode of travel when I need to go to class as I’ve lost my lightrail pass and I don’t want to continually pay the fare. I am going into super-frugal-savings mode.
Key plunking
So classes have begun and it feels nice to have this added structure to my life now, though I know in several weeks I’ll feel differently when deadlines are upon me. But for now, I like it.
Also, more excitingly, I’ve finally signed myself up for some piano lessons which I will be taking every Thursday Wednesday night. My instructor’s house is just a hop and a skip from my work. I can’t wait!

I’m excited!
Once again
I’ve been kicking around the idea of moving back to Canada, again. Not that I had completely shut the book on the idea before, but for the last several months I haven’t really actively thought about it or pursued it.
So I decided that I will apply to some schools in Canada in the fall (in addition to the few around here) and wait and see how things unfold. It’s a bit unnerving not having definite plans for the future, but all together exciting.
New you
I have a lot of plans for the new year; there are loads of things I want to do and accomplish. What better time than now (new year, change of circumstance) to start anew and do the things you’ve long wanted to do, and be the better daughter, sister, friend, person you’ve always wanted to be.
